Municipality Transport Master Plan of Bhaktapur (For Academic Purpose only)
Bhaktapur District is located in Bagmati Zone of the Central Development Region of Nepal. It borders with Kavrepalanchowk district to the East, Kathmandu and Lalitpur district to the West, Kathmandu and Kavrepalanchowk to the north and Lalitpur district to the South. The district has four municipalities. . It has a population of more than 81,728 as per 2011 census, of which the vast majority are still Newars.
The district inventory identified just over 34.337km of roads, including 12.53 km of strategic roads and 21.807 km of District Core Road Networs. The existing SRN roads link up 3 other municipalities of the . Out of the 21.807 km Municipality roads,1.077 km road is black top,19.793 km road is gravel and 1.0 km road is earthen.

Annual conservation costs for the entire district road core network are estimated at NPR 12.331 million based on the first year, and will be updated in the ARMP based on actual annual maintenance needs as determined in the annual road condition survey. Total conservation costs for the five-year MTMP period are estimated at NPR 85.933 million. An analysis of the road network identified the need for improvement of most of the core road network roads in order to bring them to a maintainable all-weather standard and provide them with a proper road surface in light of existing traffic volumes. The required improvements and their estimated costs are listed below.
